PEER Report #244

A REVIEW OF THE AQUACULTURE AND POULTRY SCIENCE RESEARCH PROGRAMS OF THE DIVISION OF AGRICULTURE, FORESTRY, AND VETERINARY MEDICINE, MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY, August 21, 1990, 34 pages

PEER found weaknesses in the way Mississippi State University’s Division of Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Medicine identifies aquacultural and poultry industries’ research needs. In particular, the division’s fragmented planning efforts lack specific priority-setting mechanisms and allow little formal industry participation in needs assessment. In addition, Mississippi State University research units lack a formal methodology to a allocate research funding by department. As a result of fragmented research activities, breakdowns in communicating research results to industry users have occurred.
